Who we are

At illumin, we are transforming the advertising landscape. Our platform offers an integrated space for journey planning, execution, and reporting. It empowers marketers to connect with their audiences in powerful ways through real-time data and easy-to-use visual tools. By seamlessly combining media planning and buying in an intuitive interface, marketers can take complete control of their campaigns, meeting customers wherever they are in the buying journey and maximizing the impact of their ad spend through personalized insights for smarter decision-making.

We are at a pivotal moment, evolving into a product-led company with a team of over 100 skilled professionals and new leadership guiding our path forward. By harnessing the power of data, advancing our AI capabilities, and deeply investing in our people, we are preparing for a future that will redefine what’s possible in journey advertising.

Our work is guided by two beliefs: that the ability to execute is paramount to success and that we are only as good as our people. As we grow and transform, we are looking for team members (illumineers) who share our bias for speed, delivery over perfection, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Joining us now is a chance to be part of our transformation.

Who we need

Reporting to the VP, Product and Design, we are hiring a Lead Product Designer to help shape the future of product design at illumin. As our new Lead Product Designer, you will play a key role in defining how our platform evolves by connecting experiences across products, establishing scalable design patterns, and helping teams navigate ambiguity with clarity and confidence. Leading a small team of Product Designers, you will drive the experience and interaction design behind sophisticated DSP workflows used by marketers to plan, execute, and optimize campaigns at scale. Working closely with Product Management and Engineering, you will translate complex business and technical requirements into intuitive, high-impact user experiences that influence both customer outcomes and product direction.

This is a hybrid opportunity, working Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on-site in our downtown Toronto office. Our headquarters are located within minutes of St. Andrew and Union subway stations.

What's in it for you

Influence and ownership. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of product design at illumin. You will have the ability to influence how the platform evolves across multiple products and workflows, contributing to system-wide decisions rather than focusing solely on individual features. Working closely with Product and Engineering leadership, your ideas and design thinking will directly impact both the customer experience and product direction.

Complex problems to solve. You enjoy untangling complexity and designing thoughtful solutions for sophisticated users. At illumin, you will work on highly interconnected DSP workflows and data-dense experiences that require strong systems thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. This is an environment where ambiguity is expected, thoughtful pushback is valued, and teams work together to solve challenging product problems at scale.

Leadership and growth. You want to lead while remaining close to the work. In this role, you will mentor and support a growing team of Product Designers while continuing to contribute hands-on to product strategy and execution. There is an opportunity to help shape design practices, elevate the quality of work across the team, and grow your leadership scope as the function continues to evolve.

How you will make an impact:

  • Lead complex product and systems design. You will lead the end-to-end design of sophisticated, workflow-heavy DSP experiences, from early discovery and problem definition through to execution and iteration. This includes shaping 0-to-1 initiatives, designing scalable interaction patterns, and connecting experiences across products to create intuitive, cohesive workflows for customers operating at scale.
  • Bring clarity to complex product challenges. Working closely with Product Management and Engineering, you will help teams navigate ambiguity, challenge assumptions, and turn complex business and technical requirements into thoughtful, user-centred solutions. You will contribute to roadmap discussions, influence product direction, and confidently communicate design rationale and trade-offs to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
  • Lead and elevate design practices. As the lead for a small team of Product Designers, you will mentor and support individual contributors while remaining highly hands-on in the work. You will lead critiques and collaborative design discussions, help raise the quality bar across the team, and contribute to hiring, onboarding, and the continued evolution of the design function.
  • Drive consistency and scalability across the platform. You will own and evolve the design system, establishing scalable patterns, shared component libraries, and consistent interaction models that improve usability and create greater alignment across products and teams. You will also champion research, usability testing, and data-informed decision-making to ensure design solutions are grounded in real customer needs and behaviours.

What you bring:

  • The product design leadership. You have experience leading or mentoring Product Designers within a product-led environment and know how to balance hands-on design work with leadership responsibilities. You are comfortable providing feedback, leading design discussions and critiques, and helping elevate the quality of work across a team. You know how to guide conversations, challenge assumptions thoughtfully, and help teams move from ambiguity to clarity.
  • The systems thinking and product design expertise. You bring deep experience designing complex enterprise or B2B SaaS products, ideally within workflow-heavy or data-intensive environments. You think beyond individual features, understanding how products, workflows, and interaction patterns connect across a platform. Your portfolio demonstrates strong experience in interaction design, information architecture, UX systems thinking, and designing scalable user experiences that balance usability with business and technical needs.
  • The technical and design systems capability. You are highly proficient in Figma and experienced building and maintaining scalable design systems, shared component libraries, and consistent interaction patterns. You are comfortable creating wireframes, prototypes, and polished high-fidelity designs while collaborating closely with Engineering to ensure thoughtful implementation and technical feasibility. Experience with AI-supported workflows, prototyping tools, or front-end technologies is considered an asset.
  • The communication and collaboration skills. You thrive in highly collaborative, cross-functional environments and are confident working with Product Management, Engineering, and business stakeholders to shape solutions and influence product direction. You can clearly articulate design rationale, present ideas to leadership, ask thoughtful questions, and navigate differing perspectives while keeping user and business goals at the centre of decision-making.
  • The curiosity and adaptability. You are comfortable operating in fast-moving environments where priorities evolve and problem spaces are not always clearly defined. You are naturally curious, open to feedback, and motivated by continuous improvement. Whether exploring emerging technologies, refining workflows, or evolving design practices, you are always looking for better ways to solve problems and improve the user experience.
